Plastic bottles can be lovely in the hands of a designer. Two new projects use soda and water bottles with light to create very different but stunning results. Issey Miyake’s Reality Lab, in a collaboration with Artemide, developed a transluscent fiber made from recycled PET bottles. The material was used to create subtly-lit origami structures, which fan out with LED’s inside. In a very different way, designer Garth Britzman created a canopy of colored light and shade using unprocessed bottles. Each bottle is partially filled with colored water, making a lovely pattern with an undulating effect.
