Anyone can bang around with pots and pans and say they are a drummer – but they aren’t necessarily making music. Sound artist Diego Stocco specializes in taking everyday objects – whether pots, or plastic pipes, or light bulbs – and makes them into instruments. He previously made music from a dry cleaner, and from nature. For his latest project, he created an entire orchestra, each instrument a cobbled-together hybrid of others, like the Expericello – a combo of a cello, zither, piano strings, and bass strings. Stocco plays each instrument in the orchestra, creating a lovely cacophony of sounds.
