Beauty in Protest

International artists are protesting inequality with some powerful & beautiful installations. In Brazil, Spanish art collective and ‘graffiti rockers’ Boa Mistura brought together favela residents to paint the winding stairwells intensely bright colors. They added uplifting words like ‘firmeza’ (steadfastness) andĀ orgulho’ (pride) in bright white type, with a 3D illusion effect pulling out the words at the right angle and distance. And in Madrid, art collective Luzinterruptus attached 200 illuminated glass bottles to ‘flow’ from several of the city’s public drinking fountains, drawing attention to fountains that are not tended to and no longer useable for the public.
