Hint of Rainbow

Only in Japan – a new police station in Kumamoto City has a wonderfully playful design. Klein Dytham Architects created the structure, which is topped with a ribbon wall of hole-punched steel, which forms a patio of sorts. The interior side of the wall is painted in a subtly beautiful gradation of a rainbow, allowing for differing hints of color depending on the vantage point for outside viewers. The Kumamoto Police wanted a building that stood out as a local landmark but presented a friendly image.
