Water Over The Bridge

The city of Amsterdam launched an international competition for a new bridge design for the nations’ capital. Architecture Project, Malta-based architecture firm, proposed “Flux”, a daring concept whereby the bridge actually goes underneath the water in order to preserve the natural water flow of the Amstel river. Pedestrians simply walk down towards the river, through the underwater tunnel and emerge on the other side. The project is an excellent example of a new form of sustainable architecture that aims to work more in harmony with nature rather than opposing it.
