The New Parrish

Architizer recently released a piece about the new Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, NY, on why its new design by Herzog & de Meuron is “perfect.” The Museum celebrates the work of the many artists who, from the 19th century on, have escaped from NYC north to the quieter and gentler space of Eastern Long Island. Herzog & de Meuron’s long and narrow answer to house the art of the area is a recognition of the landscape surrounding it, with a barn-inspired structure of poured concrete and wood. Grand, exposed rafters underly the two steeped roofs, and the entire building works with, not against, its serene, bucolic surroundings.
